Mission

The mission of the program is to train and raise individuals who are aware that the society is rapidly getting older, who have a holistic view regarding “senility” with its health, social, psychological, economic, individualistic and societal aspects, who can coalesce with the elderly and can participate in the studies which are carried out nationally and who are equipped with the basic knowledge and skills in the field.

Vision

Our vision is to train and raise productive, innovative professionals who are qualified, who had received a fine education, who are inquisitive and who renovates himself/herself in a country which is bound to be comprised of “seniors”.

Graduation Requirements

Students who achieve 120 ECTS (AKTS), who successfully took the mandatory courses and who completes the mandatory summer internship can be able to graduate.

Program Qualifications

  1. Acquires general knowledge in terms of basic health sciences and uses this knowledge when needed.
  2. Acquires sufficient knowledge regarding the subjects of the field and obtains theoretical and practical knowledge.
  3. Recognizes the changes in seniors’ social, physical and psychological situations and their needs, identifies the problems and formulates solutions through the knowledge obtained in the field of elderly care.
  4. Recognizes, uses and protects the physical environment, tools and communication technologies relevant to the field.
  5. As an individual who possesses the characteristic of lifelong learning, he/she becomes sensitive towards the events on the agenda of the society and the world regarding the field.
  6. Works in collaboration with other health team members and professionals from different disciplines when carrying out applications in the field of elderly care.
  7. As an individual, knows the relevant laws, regulations and legislation regarding his/her duties, responsibilities and rights and acts accordingly.
  8. Knows the rules of healthy nutrition, an adequate and balanced nutrition, the principles of nutrition in the elderly, the importance of nutrition for the elderly, frequent health problems in old age and nutrition in terms of sickness.
  9. Contributes to the projects and activities for his/her social surroundings with an awareness of social responsibility, carries out a task given to him/her in an independent fashion.
  10. Acquires basic knowledge with regards to special cases and diseases.
  11. Acquires basic knowledge in the subjects of first aid, public health and the protection of the environment.
  12. Can establish an effective communication process with the seniors’ family members, relatives and close friends, protects the senior from abuse, informs the family and the related institutions about this situation.
  13. Acquires basic knowledge of medicine usage. Organizes the medication of the elderly, provides communication and feedback within team members in order to prevent or decrease inappropriate medicine usage with regards to the elderly.
  14. Provides care services within the scope of ethical values and principles.

15. Helps the elderly in the application of the planned rehabilitation program.
