Opticianry Program

Mission

The mission of the program is to train and raise intermediate/semi-skilled, productive and innovative health specialists who can choose the right optical tools according to the prescription data of patients diagnosed with “refraction” in order to eliminate or alleviate these vision disorders, who can prepare these according to the specified amounts and quantities, who can adapt the patient to his/her current situation and who can configure the relationships with national and international institutions.

Vision

Our vision is to be the leader institution in terms of training and raising individuals/specialists who can improve themselves according to the necessities of the time, who contributes to the development of the occupation “opticianry” in terms of scientific and technological developments, who tries to solve the problems which are encountered within the field, who prioritizes occupational ethics and takes the relevant precautions.

Awarded Degree

Students who successfully complete the program are given the Associates’ Degree in the field of Opticianry.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, students must obtain a minimum amount of 120 ECTS (AKTS), have a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and successfully complete the summer internship.

Program Qualifications

  1. Uses the general geometric optic, basic physics and mathematics knowledge.
  2. Obtains basic knowledge regarding opticianry and knows the basic optical tools. 
  1. Acquires knowledge regarding the eye, the anatomy and physiology of the eye, eye diseases, vision optics and vision health.
  2. Acquires the basic computer knowledge and uses the relevant software programs.
  3. Acquires basic practical knowledge in the field of opticianry.
  4. Executes a task independently using the acquired basic accumulation of knowledge.
  5. Acquires the characteristic of lifelong learning, determines the required knowledge and accesses to these sources of knowledge.
  6. Carries out the selection, preparation and the selling of the optical devices to the patient according to the relevant prescription.
  7. Acquires knowledge in terms of basic optical devices such as eye glasses, lenses, contact lenses, optical devices etc.
  8. Obtains an awareness regarding occupational and ethical regulations.
  9. Defines the tools used in opticianry.
  10. Knows the terminology of opticianry and uses it in his/her occupation.
  11. Identifies the basic insufficiencies, problems and looks for solutions.
  12. Follows the advances in terms of the field opticianry and makes implementations to the field of work.

15. Acquires knowledge and skills in terms of the occupational business’s managerial responsibilities.
