Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program

Mission

The mission of this program is to educate/train technical personnel who support Veterinary Physicians under the light of occupational ethics; via using the most up to date information/knowledge and making the most correct analysis regarding animal health and well-being, field applications, laboratory applications and technologies on the basis of national and international scientific approaches.

Vision

Our vision is to be a leader institution where technical personnel are educated/trained who prove their quality by acquiring the relevant education on the basis of occupational ethics and of educational and academic activities, who are competent regarding the provision of the necessities of our contemporary times, who are ready to satisfy the needs which can arise in the near future, who are respectful towards animal rights and who are qualified in terms of technology and science.

Awarded Degree

Students who successfully complete the program are given the Associates’ Degree in the field of Laboratory and Veterinary Health.

Graduation Requirements

Students who achieve 120 ECTS (AKTS), who successfully takes and completes the mandatory courses while achieving a CGPA of minimum 2.00/4.00, and who completes the mandatory summer internship are entitled to the diploma of the program.

Program Qualifications

  1. Provides services in accordance with the rules of occupational ethics.
  2. Masters the rules of hygiene/operation/security regarding the laboratory and works according to these rules, provides the ordinate working of lab equipment and acquires the proficiency to use these equipment effectively, can execute analysis in the lab and can interpret the results under the guidance of a veterinary physician.
  3. Applies the necessary tests via taking the histological, microbiological, virological, parasitological, pathological, biochemical, physiological and genetic samples and can interpret the results under the guidance of a veterinary physician.
  4. Recognizes the general characteristics and differences of animal species.
  5. Provides services of hygiene, care and health as the assistant of the veterinary physician and under the guidance of him/her in terms of disease protection and infection control at the premises of animal hospitals, veterinary clinics and farmsteads.
  6. By providing the conditions required for the health and well-being of animals; helps the relevant enterprise to maximize its effectiveness.
  7. Recognizes the causes and – if available – the vectors of these causes of zoonotic diseases and pandemics which animals can encounter and provides the necessary monitoring activities in order to protect the animals from the aforementioned diseases.
  8. Determines the time og mating/insemination of animals, executes the insemination process under the guidance of the veterinary physician, recognizes and monitors the processes of gestation and birth.
  9. Takes the protective precautions in terms of fertility, udder and feet health, and informs the veterinary physician on time.
  10. Provides animal care pre and post operation and in accordance with the relevant asepsis rules and regulations.
  11. Applies hygiene and technology towards food of animal origin together with the relevant specialists.
  12. Uses technical equipment and applies practical tests in all kinds of terrain and natural conditions, works in a high paced and in an effective manner regarding herd treatment and vaccine applications within the field of veterinary.
  13. Interprets the transferred knowledge under the guidance of the veterinary physician.
  14. Supports the veterinary physician in terms of applications for the protection from, and the control of parasitic infestations and infectious diseases.
  15. Takes responsibility regarding vocational or inter-group studies and projects.
